StockPickReport Commentary
Tale of Two Markets: The Hidden Market Within
A daily chart of the S&P indicates a short-term oversold market. Stochastics, RSI, and MACD all point to the fact that the highs in December were TOO HIGH, but the lows of last week were TOO LOW. The momentum should SLOW to the downside. The chances of more serious correction seem limited.
Stochastics and RSI are both in a nice area for at least a SLOWING of the downside move of the overall market. The stocks on our "strong buy" and "strong sell" lists are decidedly weighted to the "strong buy" side now.
Yet, a weekly chart displays another story. The weekly chart for the S&P is clearly still sitting atop a cliff, perched for more downside. The longer-term weekly chart weighs on the upside potential of the market.
Ultimately, we believe the short term daily trend and the longer term weekly trends will, well, "cancel" each other. We think there is probably downside to the tune of 3% - 5% for the S&P at this point -- IF -- a correction continues. But, that's why we suggest you employ stop/losses.
You don't have to be "right" all the time to win.
