Hasbro, Inc. Donates $385,000 to World Vision to Help Children Affected by Asia Tsunami

SEATTLE, Jan. 31, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Responding to the plight of thousands of people whose communities and families were torn apart by the tsunami disaster, Hasbro, Inc., one of the world's leading toy and game manufacturers, has donated more than $385,000 in cash and product to World Vision.

The donations will be used to help build two childcare facilities, two schools and a healthcare clinic. In addition to the cash donations, Hasbro has also given 50,000 plush toys that will be given to children in the disaster area.

World Vision has been working in the affected region for 40 years and has 3,700 staff on the ground. Within hours of the deadly earthquake and tsunamis, staff living in stricken communities were helping their neighbors with relief and rescue by dispatching food, shelter and comfort to survivors. In the coming weeks and months, World Vision staff will be closely involved in the rebuilding process.

"All of us at Hasbro are very concerned about the well-being and future needs of those who have been affected by this terrible disaster, and together with World Vision, we hope to provide some assistance in their relief and rebuilding efforts," says Al Verrecchia, Hasbro's Chief Executive Officer. "We chose to work through World Vision because of our long-standing relationship with them and their established resources in the affected areas."
