LXE Demonstrates RFID Products at Georgia's High-Tech Day Feb. 2

ATLANTA, Feb. 1, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- As part of High-Tech Day at the Capitol in Atlanta on Feb. 2, LXE, a wholly-owned subsidiary of EMS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:ELMG), will perform live demonstrations of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) products.

The demonstration, featuring LXE's MX3-RFID, MX5 and VX5 rugged mobile computers, will illustrate a wide variety of applications of several RFID technologies targeted at distribution and supply chain operations. The MX-5 incorporates RFID technology used in shipping ports to help provide better security of shipping containers around the world, which has an impact here in Georgia through the Port of Savannah.

Sponsored by the Technology Leadership Coalition, High-Tech Day brings together state lawmakers and leaders in the high-tech community. The LXE demonstration will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Georgia Railroad Freight Depot in downtown Atlanta.

"RFID is the most significant technology for Supply Chain Execution since the barcode, and is a technology of growing importance to securing our nation's ports and strengthening homeland security," notes Al Hansen, president and CEO, EMS Technologies. "We are pleased to showcase LXE's products and their integration of RFID that will revolutionize data collection across all segments of our customers' supply chain operations, providing efficiencies not available previously."

LXE's MX3-RFID rugged, mobile, hand-held computer is capable of reading barcodes as well as Class 0 and Class 1 EPC-compliant RFID tags. It gives customers the flexibility to use one unit for both traditional barcode-based & RFID-based data collection applications. Applications include compliance verification of EPC-based shipments, identification and location of RFID tagged cases, exception processing, and installation of temporary and/or remote RFID processing stations.

LXE's MX5 supports a variety of other RFID technologies, both passive and active tag-based. The MX5 demonstration will illustrate active RFID technology commonly used in fixed asset tracking, location-based applications and returnable container management.

LXE has already shipped RFID-equipped products to a variety of customers for use in their retail and Depar(tm)ent of Defense RFID compliance operations.

Dick Sorenson, director of Product Management and EPCglobal representative for LXE, explains that LXE's technology embraces open standards and a long-standing focus on durability and mobility.

"LXE's products have always provided the greatest value where benefits are realized from real-time mobile data collection, durability in rugged environments, ease of installation and use, and support for open standards," said Sorenson. "The marriage of mobility and RFID will produce efficiencies and velocity in our customers' warehousing and distribution operations unrealized with prior solutions. LXE and EMS continue to endorse open standards for RFID, which will go a long way toward providing higher security and safeguarding customers' privacy."

Members of the media are invited to visit the LXE booth from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
