The Jews' Messiah -- Author Tackles Validity of Jesus in New Book

EWING, N.J., February 3, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Some say Jesus was merely a prophet while others argue that he was the king of all humanity. James A. McCune tackles the subject and produces noteworthy results in the comprehensive academic book, Is Jesus the Jews' Messiah? (now available through AuthorHouse).

"We've read the simple extrapolations of Old Testament prophecies to the life of Jesus that Christian writers present as 'evidence,'" McCune says. "But the most difficult objections to Jesus have always come from the Jews using the same Old Testament source! Who's right?"

The question prompted an intensive research project that shackled the author for days to the Princeton University Theological Library. There, McCune combed 150 years worth of Jewish Rabbis' objections to Jesus as the Messiah. Is Jesus the Jews' Messiah? is the end result of this marathon study session.

Although McCune did spend numerous hours exhuming and interpreting pieces of "evidence" from the Old Testament, some of the most convincing evidence, he says, comes from events described in the New Testament as occurring after Jesus' death and resurrection. He combines his proof with extensive knowledge on the subject and his even, intelligent writing style to produce perhaps one of the most comprehensive defenses of Jesus. In addition to his pro-Jesus rhetoric, McCune "attacks the modern-day Christian Church." He describes how he feels the modern church has focused too much attention on "love and doing good" and "casually dismisses with a yawn many of the Bible's important instructions on righteousness and right living."

"Convincing the knowledgeable Jewish reader that Jesus is the Messiah, as difficult as that in itself might be, would still not bring him or her into the modern Christian Church, which is pagan in so many of its doctrines, practices and days," McCune says.

For anyone who doubts the validity of Jesus or who longs to look at the debate from a different perspective, Is Jesus the Jews' Messiah? offers intelligent, thought provoking discussion.

McCune has served as an international economist for several Fortune 500 companies during his career. An avid student of the Bible for more than 25 years, he wrote his master's thesis in economics on "The Economics of the Bible" and his first book, America, the True Church and the End of the Age, in 1980. He is also the author of God's Law: The Missing Element in Religious and Civil Life and The Economics of the Kingdom of God (both available through AuthorHouse).
