Ben Franklin Technology Partners Of Southeastern Pennsylvania Announces Technology Assistance Engagements

PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 4, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Ten southeastern Pennsylvania companies -- Construction Waste Management, DE Technologies, Dynamis Therapeutics, Inc., HMC Enterprises, LLC, Intellifit Corporation, Modern Food Safety Solutions, Inc., Omni Technologies, Inc., Promotions Personified, LLC, Scotland Rack, Ltd., and Tellus Building Technology, have engaged Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southeastern Pennsylvania (BFTP/SEP) Technology Services department to help further their research and development efforts.

Technology Services field agents work in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties to assist companies with identifying and implementing process and product changes that improve competitive ability. Companies are provided access to BFTP/SEP's technological resources including 20 university-based Centers of Excellence, federal laboratories, research institutes, and commercial corporations. By facilitating product analysis, design, manufacturing and/or testing activities BFTP/SEP is helping to expedite the growth of the following companies:

Construction Waste Management, Philadelphia County, is working in conjunction with the Villanova Center for the Environment to increase recycling and reuse of waste materials from the construction industry, and reduce the amount of construction debris disposed of in Pennsylvania landfills. One of their current objectives is to find a viable method to recover scrap gypsum wallboard. Construction Waste Management has the first, and only, permit from the PA Department of Environmental Protection to beneficially use this material. BFTP/SEP is a contributing partner in the exploration of the feasibility in using spent gypsum for odor mitigation. For more information, please contact Avi Golen (215)333-5077 or via e-mail at avi@cwmanagement.net.

DE Technologies, Montgomery County, is partnering with Drexel University to develop high-strength, high-density non-explosive reactive materials to be used in a defensive weapon to protect against missiles and mortars for use by the Office of Naval Research. Drexel will be using their facilities to test reactive materials by adapting conventional composite-materials technology. BFTP/SEP contributed $10,000 in funding for this project. For more information, contact George Chou at (610) 270-9700 ext. 111.

Dynamis Therapeutics, Inc., Montgomery County, is joining with the Wistar Institute to produce an F3K enzyme by using a protein expression system. The study of this enzyme could have far-reaching implications in the understanding of the development of diabetic complications. BFTP/SEP provided $10,000 to support the project. For more information, contact Annette M. Tobia, Ph.D., J.D., at (215)780-1482 or via e-mail at atobia@dynamis-therapeutics.com.

HMC Enterprises, LLC, Philadelphia County, will be employing the expertise of Delaware Valley Industrial Resource Center (DVIRC) to improve the industrial design and engineering of their line of deli display cases. The review will cover everything from the load capabilities of the glass casement to the integrity of the cooler. BFTP/SEP provided $10,000 to support the project. For more information contact Christopher Scott at (215) 464-6800, ext. 20 or via e-mail at hmccraychris@aol.com.
