Author Shows Readers the World -- Locales Come to Life in New Book by Veteran Traveler

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif., February 9, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Since he was a child, J. Antonio Perez has traversed the globe. From China to the colonial sites of Boston, his adventures have taught him an enormous amount about people and history. He chronicles his journeys in his new book, I Was There: Memorable World Journeys Including Prowling the Pacific in Time of War (now available through AuthorHouse).

His book is a collection of experiences and observations garnered throughout a lifetime of travels. Extended residencies in China, Peru, and Canada, as well as travels to the Mediterranean, the Southwestern Navajo nation and to historic New England are all included in this fascinating work. His trips to the old Spanish missions in the West sparked such an interest that he is currently writing a book about them.

The son of a Navy doctor, Perez learned from an early age about the culture differences between Americans and other people. He has tasted the resentment of America's influence and experienced the goodness of the residents of numerous countries. As he grew older, Navy service took him to even more exotic locales, and he interjects interesting historical facts into each personal anecdote.

From treks to Cuzco and Machu Picchu after serving in Pearl Harbor and on a small seaplane tender in the South Pacific during WWII, Perez invites readers into his memories for a unique and exciting world traveling experience. I Was There is a powerful story that artfully weaves wanderlust, history and adventure.

After traveling with the Navy and working in the aerospace industry during the early years of the Space Shuttle, Perez now focuses his talents as a professional writer and photographer. His articles have appeared in The Chicago Tribune's Sunday magazine and in Vagabond and Army magazines.
