The Gift of Expression -- New Book Blends Art, Language into Creative Legacy

VICTORIA, British Columbia, Feb. 9, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Belle Schiff has moved through life with great awareness. Her rugged childhood environment, the many cultures she has experienced and the gifted people surrounding her have all inspired her and culminate in her book, From Spruce to Magnolia: Poems, Thoughts, and Tales of Nature: Earth, Human, Divine (now available through AuthorHouse).

"I hoped to comfort some with the balm of soul companionship and an element of soul playfulness. I dreamed of presenting a genuine slice of life which would be of interest to some persons of all nations, and which would help to promote a global weaving of the heart," writes Schiff. She accomplishes this vision with From Spruce to Magnolia, a collection of poetry and prose.

Schiff begins the book with uplifting quotes from Scripture, through which readers imbibe a joyful message. She then offers a sweet tour of her life's events, emotions and everyday wonders through intimate journaling, insightful poetry and essays. Photographs and drawings from local Canadian artists enhance the poignant language.

Describing the care and thought invested in this collaborative project, Schiff writes, "The pictures (my friend) was able to draw during a threatening crisis period in her life reflect the gift of spirituality which is a part of her being. Providing interplay with Clare's story is my own extract of the spiritual in my life viewed in gentle retrospect."

An intriguing life story that explores one woman's roots and her growth throughout life, From Spruce to Magnolia provides an enriching experience for all readers.

Born in 1930, Schiff was raised in the parkland region of Alberta, Canada. She was nurtured by spiritual parents and other persons, and continues to remain strong in the Christian faith. She has lived in rural and urban areas of Canada and America. Postgraduate studies in religion and social work have informed her direction, as has her connection to the Green Party of Canada and participation in international bioregional gatherings. Schiff has traveled widely. In 1999, she helped found the Kapasseni Project, which has assisted in rebuilding a demolished village in Mozambique, Africa. The Ministry of Culture in the local Sofala Province is in the final stages of registering the project as a "Society in Mozambique," which aims to increase opportunities and improve the quality of life for all citizens in the province. From Spruce to Magnolia is Schiff's first published book. She previously self-published five copies of a Bangladesh primer for educational outreach to her church community.
