Photo Release -- Lex & Terry Show Gives Shopping Cart 'Extreme Makeover' With $3,000 Worth of Electronic Equipment to Donate to Homeless

Radio listeners help hosts "trick out" cart to include solar power, TV, stereo, GPS tracker, alarm system and much more

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Feb. 16, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Think "Extreme Makeover" meets "Down and Out in Beverly Hills"...meets "Pimp My Ride". On Feb. 17, Lex Staley and Terry Jaymes, co-hosts of the nationally syndicated The Lex & Terry Morning Radio Network (www.lexandterry.com), will present an unsuspecting person-in-need with a fully functional, solar-powered customized "shopping" cart worth $3,000. The vehicle includes: a top of the line stereo system, LCD color TV, time and temperature gauge, theft alarm, GPS Tracking System, refrigerator/heater, headlights, a can crusher, and much, much more -- all sitting upon brand new 10" wheels.

The cart, made by Jacksonville-based TechniCar, an AV installation and repair company, was designed by the hosts and their listeners over the course of several shows. The hosts will swap carts with one lucky homeless person during Thursday's broadcast.

"The cart is no less than stunning - it's like a Ferrari," said co-host Lex Staley. "The show has a history of lending a hand in the community, and as this concept developed, we realized what a great experience it was to be able to involve our listeners in helping out in a creative and totally productive way."

The design process began a few months ago when eager listeners began calling in with creative ideas that would construct the ultimate vehicle for a person who lived a life on the streets.

The wheels really began turning when a listener brought in a junked up shopping cart, which Lex and Terry gave to TechniCar to get to work on. The company first disassembled the cart entirely, put it back together with state of the art electronic equipment, and then finished it with ultra-durable Electric Candy Blue paint.

"We all thought hard about what features would really work to a person's advantage who did not have a roof over their heads," said co-host Terry Jaymes. "Having a radio was key. I mean they have to be able to hear the show."

A full list of cart features includes:

 GPS Satellite Tracking
 Master Key
 Theft Alarm with Remote
 Refrigerator/Heater
 80 LED Effect Lighting
 Manual Can Crusher
