 StockPickReport Commentary
 "I've Got A Theory"

Do you believe in "Alien Abduction"? Now, I'm serious. Do you believe that "Aliens" abduct people? You know, take them into a UFO and perform experiments?

For every one of you that is snickering right now, there are others saying, "Yes! I can't believe this guy is talking about it, but YES, I believe!"

Well, for those of you that DO believe, I have a theory. For those of you who don't believe, and are saying, "what is this guy talking about aliens for? I'm looking for STOCK commentary" - hold on for the punch line at the end.

Alien abductees (as they are called) claim a few things:

 1. The abductions normally happen at night when the
    abductee is roused from sleep.
 2. They are taken by beings without visible ears or hair.
The beings also have extremely large eyes and a very
    tiny mouth.
 3. The abduction experience involves "floating" out of a
    room by an unknown force.
 4. The abductees are brought into something that looks
like an "operating room" where a "doctor" and "helpers"
perform "experiments". These experiments involve the
major orifices (I'll let you figure out what that means).
The experiments involve "giant" needles that "really" hurt.
 5. The Aliens are often wearing something with a strange
"serpent" symbol in a "triangle shaped" design.
 6. The Aliens communicate with the abductees via
    "telepathy".

I used to read the accounts of abductees and think, "Wow, that sounds so real. I mean, so many people having the same experiences. No way to make up EVERY account."

Then, my first son was born.

While I held my first son in the hospital room, I noticed something: He looked aimlessly around until I held him close to my face. Then, his gaze fixed on my eyes.

His gaze fixed on my eyes. Not my hair. Not my mouth. Not my ears.

My eyes.

It hit me like the proverbial "ton of bricks". Here's my "Alien Abduction" theory:

People are dreaming about events that happened to them when they were infants. They are dreaming about things which to an infant would be unexplainable. Their "adult" brains try to decipher what's going on, but it's not possible because the source of the dream was unknown to their infant selves.

 1. The abductions normally happen at night because that's
    when people are usually asleep.
 2. The lack of hair, ears, nose, or mouth, plus the large
eyes are cause by an infants fixation on the eyes of their
parent, to the exclusion of other features. This is,
by the way, backed up by medical knowledge of infant
    sensory perception.
 3. The abduction experience involves "floating" out of a
room by an unknown force because an infant is picked up
and moved around, and they would not have any idea how,
or by who, or to where.
 4. The abductees are brought into something that looks
like an "operating room" where a "doctor" and "helpers"
perform "experiments", and this tracks precisely with
what frequently happens to infants. Infants live in a
fairly comfortable and darkened environment for most of
their days. When they are "floated" to a doctor's office,
they are probed (literally), stuck with needles (literally),
and examined front to back and every which way you can
imagine. They have their clothes removed by strangers.
 5. The Aliens are often wearing something with a strange
"serpent" symbol in a "triangle shaped" design which,
just so happens to look like what a doctor REALLY WEARS
    on his uniform.
 6. The Aliens communicate with the abductees via "telepathy",
and this makes sense when you realize that an infant
would have no way of knowing what "talking" was.
Only that they heard things "somehow" and what they
    "heard" came from "somewhere".

Look, I'm not saying that ALL abductions are the product of adults having dreams that are just memories of their infancy. I guess it's possible that "Aliens" really do abduct people. What I am saying is that Occam's Razor (the philosophy which says that given a choice, the most likely cause for an event is usually that which is, well, most likely. It is most likely that Aliens are not abducting people, and there is evidence to the contrary with no evidence of it in the first place. Thus, Occam's Razor would argue that abductions are not really happening.) argues against it.

The huge point I'm trying make here (maybe not as good as I could) is this:

Just because you REALLY believe something does not make it true. This is true of "Alien Abductions", and this is true of stock you hold that aren't going your way.

...AH-HA! The "punch line".

How many times have you held a stock that just kept dropping. And dropping. And dropping?

Come on. Admit it. You've done it. We've all done it.

You concoct all kinds of reasons "why" the stock will come back. You convince yourself of every possible scenario for a rebound. You relegate evidence to the contrary to being "noise" or "negative". Ultimately, though, what you believe has nothing to do with the truth about a stock. What matter is what you've decided to do AHEAD of time. Before you bought a stock.

Look at it this way: If you have a stop/loss and a target in mind ahead of time, you won't need to "believe" a stock will (or will not) do ANYTHING. You will not need to cook up a story every morning about why "today" will be "the day" your stock will turn around. If you use targets and stop/losses, you will be FREE from the clutches of an "Alien" called, "the stock market".
