 StockPickReport Commentary
 "Where Were We?"

You may recall we concluded our commentary last Friday with, "We think it's time to shore up stop/losses and not try to fight the market." If you look at a yearly chart for the S&P we think you can see clear evidence of what we're talking about. Stochastics and RSI both show the market is overbought.

The market has three things that tell us you'll get great buying opportunities before it's all said and done:

 1. Taxes are coming due. The market generally sells off into them.
 2. The market is at multi-year highs. It was better to buy
three years ago. It's better to sell at market highs.
 3. Technical indicators like RSI and Stochastics signal
    pressure to the downside.

At the end of November we thought the market would drop. It went up. Then it went down. Sharply down. The market eventually settled down below where we began to stress caution.

Here we are again asking for some "short" love. If you want ways to make money in this market, we think they can be found these ways:

 1. Sell covered calls on stock you own.
 2. Sell puts on stock you'd like to own at cheaper prices.
 3. Sell short stocks you think have run up sharply.
 4. Sell positions in stocks you have profits in.

A trader once said something to me that I found funny at the time. He said, "Don, you can't lose money making money."

Touche, I say. If you are skittish about the whole "shorting" idea, options, or even the CONCEPT that your stocks might go down. We recommend you do these three things:

 1. Buy a copy of Martin Pring's amazing book, "Technical
    Analysis Explained".
 2. Buy a copy of Thomas McCafferty's wonderful, "All
    About Options".
 3. Watch the movie "Rounders".

Here are three stocks we think have more downside than upside:

 1. Apple Computer (Nasdaq:AAPL)
 2. Applied Materials (Nasdaq:AMAT)
 3. Lam Research (Nasdaq:LRCX)

"Slow On The Uptake"

I apologize to anyone who sent an email to me in the last few weeks. I probably did not get to it. My family has been ill and I've been running around like the proverbial "chicken". I will do my best to get to every email sent to us in the last few weeks.

My sincerest apologies for what may have seemed like nonchalance.
