LAX, Ontario International Post Higher January Passenger Volumes

LAWA Reports First Totals for Palmdale Regional Airport


LOS ANGELES, Feb. 25, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Los Angeles World Airports today announced January 2005 traffic statistics for its three passenger airports with Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Ontario International Airport (ONT) posting solid gains over the same month in 2004 and Palmdale Regional (PMD) reporting its first full month of traffic statistics since the recent resumption of airline service.

LAX served 4,860,883 passengers in January, an 8.1 percent rise compared with the same month in 2004. Last month's rise in passengers followed a strong 2004 that saw an annual increase of 10.4 percent compared with 2003.

LAX domestic passengers totaled 3,415,473 in January 2005, up 8.7 percent from January 2004. International traveler volume increased 6.8 percent to 1,445,410.

Total passenger traffic at ONT increased 5.8 percent to 512,142 passengers. The international passenger component of the traffic rose 17.3 percent to 9,657.

Total air cargo (mail and freight) processed at LAX during the month increased 9.3 percent to 164,221 tons.

At ONT, air cargo tonnage for the month totaled 43,980 tons, a decrease of 2.6 percent.

Aircraft movements rose to 54,586 takeoffs and landings at LAX from 53,807 in 2004. Ontario experienced a drop of 2.4 percent in its flight activity, declining to 12,035 takeoffs and landings for the month.

PMD reported its first full month of statistics since passenger service resumed in late December 2004. Scenic Airlines carried 656 passengers to and from Palmdale in January 2005.
