Emulex Introduces 4Gb/s PCI Express Connectivity Solutions

Emulex Extends its Time-to-Market Leadership with New Family of 4Gb/s PCI Express Fibre Channel I/O Controllers and HBAs

SAN FRANCISCO, March 1, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Intel Developer Forum -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), the industry's preeminent source for a broad range of advanced storage networking infrastructure solutions, today announced its new family of 4Gb/s Fibre Channel host bus adapters (HBAs) and I/O Controllers (IOC) with a native PCI Express interface. Based on Emulex's latest generation I/O Controller, codenamed Zephyr, the 4Gb/s LPe11000 family of HBAs is designed specifically for use within emerging PCI Express-based servers and other embedded applications. This new family of HBAs offers both single and dual channel connectivity, and may scale from volume servers environments up to high performance enterprise-class systems. Emulex will begin sampling to OEMs next quarter.

"Emulex is once again demonstrating its market leadership in the areas of both 4Gb/s and PCI Express with the launch of its new Zephyr I/O Controller and LPe11000 family of HBAs," said Mike Smith, Executive Vice President, Worldwide Marketing, Emulex Corporation. "Emulex's Zephyr IOCs and LPe11000 HBAs offer software driver compatibility with out existing products, enabling our customers to utilize next generation server and storage solutions using 4Gb/s and PCI Express technologies."

The new 4Gb/s Zephyr-based LPe110000 HBA features Emulex's unique Service Level Interface (SLI), enabling full driver compatibility with prior generations of Emulex LightPulse(tm) HBAs. Additionally, the Emulex SLI also ensures performance scalability for current 2Gb/s and 4Gb/s speeds as well as future link speeds of 16Gb/s and beyond. Zephyr delivers high bandwidth and I/O processing performance, full FICON distance support on two ports and adheres to low power requirements of next generation system designs.

"Providing solutions that combine 4Gb/s and PCI Express significantly improve both system and storage network performance and scalability," said Jim Pappas, director of initiative marketing with Intel's Digital Enterprise Group. "Technology development efforts by company's such as Emulex that fully optimize the advanced benefits of PCI Express technology serves to accelerate the seamless deployment of next generation PCI Express-based SAN infrastructure solutions."

Customers utilizing Emulex Zephyr IOCs may take advantage of new features, such as BlockGuard(tm), which was designed by Emulex to provide end-to-end data protection. Emulex's BlockGuard implementation is based on the Data Integrity Field (DIF) industry standard and is key to enabling reliable delivery of data across the storage network. The Zephyr IOC also offers integrated memory, reducing the footprint and system cost for embedded applications.

Emulex's expanding suite of 4Gb/s infrastructure solutions now includes LightPulse Fibre Channel HBAs and IOCs for both PCI-X 2.0 and PCI Express-based servers, in addition to InSpeed(tm) and FibreSpy(tm) embedded storage switches. Designed to meet the needs of multiple solution environments, ranging from blade servers to enterprise and midrange storage systems, Emulex's Zephyr-based products have the latest ARM processor and integrated memory to maximize efficiency in the most data intensive environments.
