NEW DELHI, India, March 1, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- On February 23, 2005, the Third Generation Partnership Project 2 (3GPP2) and the CDMA Development Group (CDG) held a cdma2000(R) Workshop in New Delhi to discuss how cdma2000 technologies have contributed to the development of telecommunication services in India. More than 150 participants attended the seminar, representing regulators, operators and vendors from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Canada, China, India, Japan, Korea, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the U.S. Mr. Rajendra Singh from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and Mr. P.K. Garg, Wireless Advisor to Government of India, were the keynote speakers. Other speakers included representatives from Ericsson, LGE, Lucent, Motorola, Nortel, Qualcomm, Samsung, Spirent, Reliance and Tata.
Presentations focused on the unique requirements of the Indian market, including the targeted subscriber growth of more than 200 million subscribers by the end of 2007, and how cdma2000 technology can continue to support the development of advanced communication services in the region. The speakers stressed the importance of adequate spectrum and its efficient utilization, as well as adhering to international standards and practices, to leverage the global economies of scale to provide effective, low cost service solutions that meet the needs of the Indian market.
