And They Think One Family Tree is Tough -- Author Clarifies Confusing Genealogy of the Bible

WOODLAND, Calif., March 24, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Abraham begat Issac and Zimran, Jokshan, Medan and so on and so on. Even clergy often have difficulty keeping the vast biblical family tree in order. Now, Bennie Callis puts every branch and leaf in place in his new book, "Biblical Genealogy, Abraham to Jesus Christ" (now available through AuthorHouse).

"Have you ever read the Old Testament in the Bible and tried to determine the various families in some chronological order and arrange the various individuals in their associated families?" asks Callis. "Many read through all the 'begats' and quickly become lost."

Biblical Genealogy, Abraham to Jesus Christ organizes the often confusing and scattered family histories of the Bible into one easily referenced source. In the Old Testament, much of the information is poorly organized and spread out, from Genesis to Kings to Chronicles. The New Testament offers brief summaries on the subject, and a conflict exists between the two testaments, which Callis has reconciled through extensive research. Using common genealogy software, he has chronicled the family trees of the people of the Bible beginning with Abraham and ending with Jesus.

Each chapter covers one person and their involvement within the Bible. Readers can utilize Callis' book to gain a deeper understanding of the holy text and reveal meanings and themes never perceived before by simply knowing the lineage of a certain character.

For those intrigued by the lineage of the people whose stories make up "the good book," Biblical Genealogy, Abraham to Jesus Christ details every branch of every family tree within the Bible.

Born and raised in Paducah, Ky., Callis now lives in California with his wife of 56 years. He served 30 years in the Army and received a bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska. After retiring from the military, he was an executive recruiter and a personnel manager in the aerospace industry. An avid genealogist, he has written several manuscripts and helped prepare a 700-page family study. Biblical Genealogy, Abraham to Jesus Christ, his first book, is dedicated to his daughter who died of cancer in 1998. A portion of the proceeds from this book will be donated to cancer research.
