VCCU Holds Credit Union Youth Week Essay Contest

VENTURA, Calif., March 30, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Ventura County Credit Union is celebrating National Credit Union Youth Week, April 18-22, by inviting its younger members to enter a thought-provoking essay contest.

The young writers will be asked to answer the question "If you had $500, how would you use it to help your community?" The prize, appropriately enough, is $500.

"Our essay contest benefits young members in two ways," said Carol Harris, President/CEO. "First, it asks them to think about how they can help others. Second, it requires them to express their ideas with clarity and efficiency."

The contest is open to members of Ventura County Credit Union who are under 18 years of age. The essay should be no more than 500 words and can be submitted by close of business April 22 at any VCCU office. The winner will be announced at the Credit Union's annual meeting on April 26 at 5:30 pm at the VCCU Ventura office.

Thousands of credit unions across the country are participating in National Credit Union Youth Week activities. The primary goals are to increase awareness of the benefits of credit union membership and encourage financial literacy among America's youth.

With more than 43,000 members and $350 million in total assets, Ventura County Credit Union is the largest credit union headquartered in Ventura County.
