Triathlon Your Way to Health and Wellness -- New Children's Book Paints Triathlon as a Wholesome Lifestyle

VERNON HILLS, Ill., April 4, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- If you think triathlon is only for the super fit, think again. In the new children's book My Triathlon Family, newly published author Glen McGowean paints a fascinating picture of the sport as a lifestyle that promotes health and wellness perfectly suited for everyone.

Written for the younger child, My Triathlon Family starts with a typical morning, the sun is shining and the birds are chirping. A young boy is outdoors playing triathlon with his parents although he has not fully grasped the lifestyle yet. He dreams of racing triathlon one day and his parents will cheer for him.

My Triathlon Family is a chapter out of Glen's family life. This one-in-a-kind book will help introduce kids to the sport and lifestyle that is triathlon. In these pages filled with colorful illustrations, he demonstrates that there is more to the sport than meets the eye. "It is not all about the race. It is more about the journey," he says.

About the Author

Once an all-state wrestler in high school and college, Glen McGowean needed to find another sport after college. Active in power lifting, he enjoyed multiple state, national and world championship titles, setting a new world record in the bench press. Introduced to triathlon in 1995 by his brother, he discovered the lifestyle he had been looking for. Having an almost comical time transitioning to this new sport, he never looked back.

Graduating from Northern Illinois University in 1996 with a degree in Clinical Nutrition, Glen enjoyed helping others as a dietitian for the geriatric population. He continues to help others with nutrition and remains an advocate of health and wellness through an active lifestyle.

McGowean and his wife noticed that there are very few children's books about triathlon. One day, his wife suggested for him to write a book about the sport and out of the great idea came three books. My Triathlon Family is the first book, which simplifies the sport with colorful pictures for children to understand and the two that will follow that have a more detailed idea about the lifestyle.
