Photo Release -- PHA Appoints Erik A. Eriksson as General Counsel, Promotes Jimmy M. Jamison to Director of Operations


HOUSTON, April 4, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- The Port of Houston Authority (PHA) today announced the appointment of Erik A. Eriksson as General Counsel and the promotion of Jimmy M. Jamison to Director of Operations.

Effective April 25, Eriksson's principal responsibilities as General Counsel will be to provide effective management of the PHA Legal Department and provide legal advice and recommendations to the executive and managing directors in the formulation and implementation of overall objectives, policies, and plans in accordance with the legal powers and authority of the PHA.

"Erik brings a significant level of legal skill to the Port of Houston Authority," said PHA Executive Director Tom Kornegay. "I am confident that his leadership capabilities will be a tremendous asset to the port's endeavors and I look forward to his contributions."

Eriksson joins the PHA from Maxxam Inc. and its subsidiaries where he has worked since 1986. Most recently he acted as Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of its Salmon Creek LLC subsidiary. He has also served as Senior Assistant General Counsel of Maxxam, and Vice President of Maxxam Property Company and affiliates. Eriksson's background includes experience as an associate attorney for law firms in California and New York.

Eriksson holds a Juris Doctorate degree from Harvard Law School. He graduated summa cum laude from Columbia University where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He also pursued graduate studies in urban planning at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. Eriksson has been admitted to the state bar of New York, California and Texas. He also has been admitted to practice by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern districts of New York and the Central District of California.

Effective April 11, Jamison's responsibilities as Director of Operations will be to manage and direct the operations of the PHA departments assigned, Barbours Cut Terminal, Turning Basin Terminal, Galveston Container Terminal, Bayport, Port Police and Marine departments. He will advise and make recommendations to the executive and managing director in the formulation of overall practices, policies, and plans for the PHA.

Jamison joined the PHA in 1987 as the assistant manager of the Barbours Cut Container Terminal. He was promoted in 1992 to manager of Barbours Cut, then promoted again in 1998 to general manager of container terminals at Barbours Cut, Galveston and Bayport (currently under construction). Over the past 12 years, the annual volume at Barbours Cut has increased to more than 1.3 million TEUs while the terminal's annual net income has risen to approximately $30 million. Prior to joining the PHA, Jamison was a manager for Young & Company Stevedores/Fairway Terminal Corporation. In that position, he was responsible for all stevedore operations at PHA's Barbours Cut Terminal, including labor relations, customer service, staffing, equipment maintenance and financial management.

Jamison graduated from Sam Houston State University in 1979. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration.
