Olixir Technologies Ultra-Rugged Transportable Hard Drives Ideal for Storage Requirements in Tactical and Highly-Secure Environments

Compact High-Capacity, High-Performance Mobile DataVault 2LX External Hard Drive Exceeds MIL-STD-810F Transit Drop Test Requirement Delivering Versatility and Security for Sensitive Government Applications

WASHINGTON, April 5, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Olixir Technologies, a provider of technologically advanced ruggedized, portable data storage solutions, today announced at FOSE 2005 (Booth 1220) a significant improvement to the shock and vibration protection technology incorporated into its popular Mobile DataVault 2LX External Hard Drive. The Mobile DataVault 2LX exceeds MIL-STD-810F with the ability to survive multiple seven-foot drops onto concrete without data loss or damage to the drive. The drive has also been tested to survive key operating vibration requirements that are defined in MIL-STD-810F. As one of the most compact, ultra-rugged transportable external drives available in the industry, the Mobile DataVault 2LX is an ideal storage solution for deployment use in harsh tactical environments or for storing and archiving critical, sensitive data.

The compact Mobile DataVault 2LX, which weighs only 12 ounces and is about the size of a VHS tape, is available in capacities of 20 GB to 100 GB and can absorb shocks of well over 10,000 Gs and significant vibration. The ultra-rugged high-capacity Mobile DataVault 2LX can take the excessive handling and transportation required of demanding applications such as mobile digital video surveillance, transporting data, media consolidation, video editing, medical data storage, deployed military and intelligence data safeguarding, and small- to medium-sized enterprise backup and disaster recovery.

Compatible with USB 2.0, Firewire, Serial ATA and the 5.25-inch Docking Bay, the Mobile DataVault 2LX incorporates an 8 MB cache enabling users to transfer up to 1 GB of data in under 40 seconds. When used with Olixir's Docking Bay, the Mobile DataVault 2LX becomes an ideal solution for working with classified information where the entire operating system and data can be stored on a single drive and placed in a secure location.

"The new level of shock protection combined with our improvements in vibration protection that we've attained in this improved product is creating considerable buzz, particularly among government organizations that work with classified data or have to transport the external drives in deployed tactical environments," explained Darshan Shah, President of Olixir Technologies. "While many of our users are taking advantage of the capability of our drives to be moved and stored while non-operational, we also have government agencies that leveraged the shock absorption properties of the DataVault 2LX in mobile applications including video surveillance in law enforcement vehicles."

Mobile DataVault 2LX Product Specifications

The 5,400 RPM Mobile DataVault 2LX includes 8MB of cache memory, allowing it to transfer up to a GB of data in less than 30 seconds using the available Serial ATA cable interface. In addition to Serial ATA, the versatile Mobile DataVault 2LX also supports USB 2.0, Firewire and PCMCIA interfaces through interchangeable cables. In addition, the hot-swappable drive can be used as a Plug-and-Play storage solution when used with Olixir's 5.25-inch Docking Bay and desktop USB 2.0 chassis, making it an ideal solution for media rotation, disaster recovery and data security for small- to medium-sized businesses. The Mobile DataVault 2LX supports plug-and-play operation with Macintosh OS 8.6 and higher, Windows 2000/ME/XP and Linux operating systems.

At a height of 1.40 inches, width of 4.45 inches and length of 7.5 inches, Mobile DataVault 2LX is compact enough to fit into the palm of a hand -- making it transportable in any briefcase, safe, cabinet or other external storage container. Weighing in at a little over a pound, the Mobile DataVault 2LX can easily be moved and integrates a rugged cooling system to improve reliability.

Available in 40GB, 60GB, 80GB, and 100GB capacities, Olixir's Mobile DataVault 2LX drives (not including extra cable or docking bay), are available now through GSA Advantage (or Olixir directly) at prices of $286, $435, $581, and $651 respectively.
