ServGate Systems Secure Dashang Group, Chinese Holding Company with 120 Retail Superstores

MILPITAS, Calif., April 5, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- ServGate Technologies -- the leading provider of integrated, adaptive network security platforms -- today announced that China's Dashang Group has selected ServGate to secure the holding company's massive IT network, which interconnects approximately 120 retail superstores and 100,000 employees nationwide. As the 96th largest company in China, its 2004 sales topped $2.4 billion with a rapid annual average growth of over 30% for the 8th consecutive year.

Dashang Group has deployed ServGate unified threat management (UTM) systems within its Dalian-based headquarters and retail outlet conglomerate, which consists of Newmart(tm) shopping malls, electrical appliance megastores, home improvement retailers and most recently, supermarkets offering health-conscious products as part of China's "Three Green Project" (promoting green food consumption). In addition, ServGate establishes secured IPSec VPN connections within Dashang's interconnected retail network, which improves processing time for sales transaction and inventory logistics and distribution management.

"After comparing a number of UTM products, we chose ServGate's security solutions due to the user-friendly management interface and support of a large number of VPN channels," said Liu Qiang, network administrator of the Network Center, Dashang Group. "We were also impressed with the scalable attributes of the EdgeForce platform, which helped us to eliminate any future problems with interconnecting additional retail outlets or adding new security applications."

ServGate is the developer of the award-winning UTM system, the EdgeForce platform, offering integrated spam and virus screening applications by McAfee plus web filtering by SurfControl, intrusion prevention, firewall and VPN services. EdgeForce platforms also uniquely perform full context inspection at the gateway, a network-based solution that reconstructs data packets into a discernible format while performing content filtering services at the application layer. The EdgeForce platform's modular architecture enables new services modules and performance upgrades to be activated on all EdgeForce systems, scaling with the growth of the customer's business and network needs, and adapting to the shifting threat environment.

"Dashang Group has demonstrated an ability to dominate several of China's high-growth retail markets -- most notably the home appliance sector -- culminating in eight consecutive years of a 30 percent revenue multiple," said Atchison Frazer, vice president of marketing, ServGate. "ServGate intends to support the expected expansion of Dashang Group by ensuring its IT network has the most comprehensive protection against today's plethora of network-based threats."
