Mediware Information Systems, Inc. and Universal Health Services Sign a Multi-Year Agreement

LENEXA, Kan., April 12, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Mediware Information Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:MEDW) and Universal Health Services, Inc. (UHS) of King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, announce the signing of a multi-year corporate contract for HCLL(tm) Transfusion, Mediware's Blood Bank Transfusion Management System Software. The contract also provides UHS with one corporate support agreement for the UHS facilities currently using Mediware's blood bank product suite. The corporate agreement was executed in 2004, and since that time, four UHS hospitals have moved forward with the decision to implement the HCLL(tm) application.

"Universal Health Services is one of the recognized leaders and innovators in the healthcare industry. UHS' installation of HCLL(tm), which incorporates the industry's most advanced transfusion safety checks, is indicative of UHS' commitment to the highest level of patient care," said Frank Poggio Vice President and General Manager of Mediware's Blood Bank Division.

Poggio also states that "HCLL(tm) addresses several critical issues not only important to the Blood Bank, but critical to hospital administration. Hospitals are beginning to understand that transfusion safety is a critical component in reducing medication errors. Blood is considered a drug and subject to FDA regulations. HCLL(tm) has a multitude of safety checks performed real time with blood issue. These imbedded system alerts make HCLL(tm) critical to meeting patient safety initiatives."

"After significant evaluation, we believe that the HCLL(tm) application by Mediware can meet the requirements of our health services system. Patient safety, increased system reliability, and ease-of-use were among the major considerations in our decision. UHS seeks quality business partners to help us achieve and support the goals of our clinical strategies. It is important to UHS that we align ourselves with a vendor who has the attitude and capability to be a partner as we grow together and identify new application requirements and innovative development concepts. Overall support of the application for our user community is key and Mediware has provided, and we believe will continue to provide, that support," said Linda Reino, UHS Chief Information Officer.
