Emulex's Stuart Berman Named One of InfoWorld's Top 25 Chief Technology Officers for 2005

Berman's Vision for Networked Storage Praised Alongside Industry's Other Top Technologists from Motorola, AT&T and the United States Postal Service

COSTA MESA, Calif., April 14, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), the industry's preeminent source for a broad range of advanced storage networking infrastructure solutions, today announced that Vice President and Chief Technology Officer Stuart Berman has been named to the list of Top 25 CTOs for 2005 by InfoWorld Media Group. The annual award honors IT executives who have demonstrated exceptional innovation and leadership within their organization as well as in the industry. The award was announced in the April 11 issue of InfoWorld, and is available online at http://www.infoworld.com/2701.

"Technology leadership requires technology vision and expertise," said Steve Fox, InfoWorld editor in chief. "This year's CTO 25 award winners continue to utilize cutting edge technologies to improve their businesses."

Delivering new technology to the marketplace is a team event, and within this context Berman was a key enabler behind Vixel's corporate repositioning (Emulex acquired Vixel in November 2003). Additionally, Berman was instrumental in communicating the value proposition of Emulex's award-winning InSpeed embedded storage switching -- the first technology to cost-effectively enable the implementation of switched architectures inside the storage arrays and tape libraries. With the availability of InSpeed, new levels of storage system Reliability, Availability and Serviceability (RAS) and performance are now being achieved as the major storage manufacturers increasingly adopt switched back-end designs. In 2004, Berman led Emulex's introduction of a new family of embedded storage switches, called FibreSpy. The all-new, highly flexible 4 Gb/s embedded storage switching technology delivers industry firsts, including breaking the Fibre Channel device barrier to super-scale storage systems and bringing speed agility inside storage arrays.

"Stuart understands and anticipates market needs and follows through on his convictions to deliver unique barrier-breaking technology and solutions for the networked storage industry," said Jim McCluney, president and COO, Emulex Corp. "I am honored to acknowledge Stuart's significant contributions to the design and development of Emulex's market-leading switching technologies, such as InSpeed and FibreSpy. His continued ingenuity and innovation provides a foundation for Emulex's long-term switching technology and product development strategies."

Prior to Emulex, Berman was CTO at Vixel Corporation, where he was instrumental in transitioning the Company into the leading provider of embedded storage switch technologies. Vixel was acquired by Emulex in November 2003. Previously, Berman was co-founder of Arcxel Technologies, which Vixel acquired in February 1998. Berman holds a master's degree in Computer Science from University of California, Los Angeles, and earned a bachelor's degree with honors from University of California, San Diego.
