Go for the Gold with Gene Therapy -- New Book a Heart Stopping Read

WILMINGTON, Del., April 15, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- A father's love for his child is universally intense. When Mike Naylor learns he may have put his daughter's life in jeopardy, he will take any risk to save her. He will have to. In Olympic Sacrifice, the new book from author Jack Hocutt, M.D., get into the thick of this cutting-edge medical thriller that will put you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

Mike's daughter, Wendy, is training in a world-class Olympic sports medicine program, whose physicians are unscrupulously using medical gene therapy to ensure extraordinary athletic development. But something is going terribly wrong, and Wendy's once godlike athletic body is crashing. Mike must discover how to reverse the deadly mistake in gene therapy to save his daughter's life, but time is rapidly running out! Will Mike discover a cure before they are killed?

In crafting a riveting work of fiction, Hocutt fascinatingly brings to light the valuing of winning over human life, the challenges of medical gene therapy used to entice athletic performance, and the unethical manipulation of young athletes. "Gene therapy can very significantly improve strength, endurance, and healing, and even become the cure for several incurable diseases, but not enough is known to do this safely. We need to be aware of gene therapy's potential for miracles as well as harm that is possible today and warn those desperate to use it before it has been safely tested of its dangers," says Hocutt.
