Blogdigger Joins PubSub in Supporting FeedMesh Intiative

Shared Resource Provides Aggregators High-Quality, Validated Notification of Changes to RSS/Atom Feeds

NEW YORK, April 19, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- PubSub, the essential tool for anyone tracking what people are saying about the topics they care about, and Blogdigger, Inc., a search engine for blogs and syndicated content, today announced Blogdigger's support and involvement in the FeedMesh initiative, the common source for high quality, shared and validated RSS feeds from across the Internet.

The FeedMesh provides a shared service allowing aggregators to focus more on service rather than competing for the number of tracked feeds. By sharing the task of update discovery, aggregators can concentrate on delivering their own unique services and meeting the needs of their customers.

The number of Web sites that syndicate content is growing exponentially. PubSub tracks more than 9 million RSS feeds through the FeedMesh, with thousands more being added regularly. The FeedMesh initiative is designed as a distributed, shared network aimed at providing high-quality, validated notification of changes to RSS and Atom feeds as they are updated. In order to become a FeedMesh member and receive feeds, aggregators are required to agree to provide their feeds to the FeedMesh.

"In order for everyone to benefit from the RSS information explosion, it is useful to have a central, trusted source from which all the aggregators can pull," said Greg Gershman, president, Blogdigger. "The number of blogs and Web sites that syndicate is growing rapidly, making it challenging for one aggregator to index, search and also provide innovative, useful services for information consumers. By having all of the large aggregators contribute to and pull from the FeedMesh, users benefit from a tremendous diversity of feeds and aggregators can focus on providing innovative ways of delivering that information."

The FeedMesh initiative receives PubSub blog feeds from sources such as LiveJournal and AOL. Other contributing aggregators include Blogdigger, Blo.gs, BlogShares and Syndic8. The number of blogs with syndicated content is expected to explode as major players like Yahoo! and Microsoft introduce new blogging tools like Yahoo360 and browser-based aggregators. When MSN Spaces launched last fall, PubSub tracked a spike in the creation of more than 2 million content-syndicating blogs in just a few weeks' time.

"We at PubSub are pleased to share our knowledge of blog updates with other major aggregators who agree to share-alike," said Bob Wyman, CTO and co-founder, PubSub Concepts. "Sharing through the FeedMesh initiative benefits everyone in the blogosphere. PubSub is honored to be a part of this process."
