REDONDO BEACH, Calif., April 19, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- J.J. Quinn, a former U.S. Navy space commander and military assistant at the White House and in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, has been named vice president for missile and space defense at Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Space Technology sector.

Quinn, 52, will be the senior focal point for the Space Technology sector's relationships with missile defense and space defense customers. In his new position, he is also responsible for missile defense business development in the Asia-Pacific region. He oversees the development and implementation of the sector's strategy in missile and space defense as well as securing new business to profitably grow this program area.
"J.J.'s extensive experience at the White House and Pentagon, as well as his expertise as a naval warfighter and space commander, will serve him well in his new leadership role with Space Technology as we seek to expand our contribution to the nation's missile and space defense capabilities," said Alexis Livanos, president of Northrop Grumman Space Technology.
Quinn joins Space Technology from the company's Integrated Systems sector, where he recently served as Northrop Grumman's lead executive with U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps customers in Hampton Roads, Va. Quinn, who joined Northrop Grumman in October 2003, also served as director, Navy-Marine Corps Programs and Naval Integrated Product Team lead for the Integrated Systems sector.
Prior to joining Northrop Grumman, Quinn had a distinguished career for more than 29 years in the Navy, having retired with the rank of rear admiral. He most recently served as director for Operations, Plans, Policy and Training, U.S. Atlantic Fleet. Prior assignments include senior military assistant to the Secretary of Defense; commander, Naval Space Command; commander, Truman Battle Group; commanding officer of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, USS Abraham Lincoln; and Top Gun instructor at the Naval Fighter Weapons School. Quinn has also served as naval aide to U.S. Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush. Quinn graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with a bachelor's of science degree in mathematics. He also graduated from the U.S. Navy Nuclear Power Program.
