Be Careful Who Cares for You -- New Novel Is an Intriguing Look at the Charles Cullen Murder Cases

DENVILLE, N.J., April 22, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- In the cold of December 2003, New Jersey-native Charles Cullen reportedly admitted to investigators he ended the lives of thirty to forty patients during his career as a nurse. The reports emitted shockwaves across the nation, tainting the medical profession that linked to the word "care." Now that the case has been filed away into medical history, many questions of "why?" are still left to haunt the public ... until now. Out comes this explosive book `The Codes of Silence' by Anthony J. Macri, a fictional investigation into the dark secrecy kept within the walls of America's hospitals, even to this day.

Was Cullen moved by the ordeals the patients under his care were experiencing? Or perhaps he was an instrument of some conspiracy? `The Codes of Silence' divulges more than what the press knows about the compelling story of killer nurse Charles Cullen, who worked at various hospitals and institutions in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. In answering the haunting questions, this book follows a fascinating angle -- exploring directly into Cullen's psyche and the motivation he had for the murders. This angle draws out the possibility that the murders could have been avoided if the various hospitals involved had not been so secretive about their operations. The exploration then touches on a pervasive "code of silence" in the medical community that has now gone beyond negligence and malpractice to allow a "psycho" to commit murder for fifteen years.

In `The Codes of Silence,' author Anthony J. Macri, who represented many of the families of the victims of Charles Cullen, will take you from the silent walls of the hospitals into the twisted mind of Cullen and finally to the intense legal battles between the victims' families and powerful institutions. In the courtroom, the attorney representing the victims' families fights hard to expose the corruption that allowed Charles Cullen to continue killing for fifteen years. This novel culminates with the trial's exciting conclusion. `The Codes of Silence' is an intense medical/legal fiction thriller that explores the "what ifs" and "whys" of a historical case.
