EdgeForce IPS is a network-based solution that detects and manages inappropriate data on the network and complements ServGate's firewall policies that are configured to access a particular service or host and defend against the full context of threats.
As a network-based solution, EdgeForce IPS provides continuous monitoring of devices or networks to prevent malicious activity. EdgeForce IPS is designed to compare current activity with a list of signatures known to represent malicious activity in addition to deploying other detection methods such as protocol analysis, anomaly, behavioral or heuristics that alert the administrator to unauthorized network activity.
EdgeForce IPS is extremely flexible; administrators can use only the attack signatures selected, and can add or delete new rules as threat conditions change. The ability to manage attack signatures means that administrators can protect the network as soon as new risks are discovered. Extensive logging and reporting capabilities allow the administrator to accurately monitor attack activity to recognize patterns or anomalies that affect the internal network.

By sitting inline, EdgeForce IPS has direct access to traffic and commands, and the ability to proactively prohibit malicious activity using centralized sensors. These sensors monitor network traffic (either at network access points or at each network gateway) and analyze traffic. Preventive actions are determined based on the type of traffic or data processed or scanned including directing the firewall to enforce policies.
