Lantronix Launches New USB Device Server Family Allowing Sharing of Multiple Off-the-Shelf USB Peripherals Over a Network or the Internet

Innovation Creates New Role for Consumer Peripherals as Tools for Business

LAS VEGAS, May 3, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Lantronix, Inc. (Nasdaq:LTRX), today announced the launch of its UBox(tm) family of external USB device servers which enables many standard, off-the-shelf USB devices to be connected, shared and controlled over LAN/WAN networks and even the Internet. USB is a standard interface used in many consumer devices, but was designed to connect electronics peripherals to a single computer. Lantronix's UBox, a USB to Ethernet interface, now makes it possible to connect and share many products previously not considered as part of the office network including multifunction printers, scanners, storage subsystems, security ID devices, card readers, bar code scanners and even PDAs.

The UBox enables network connectivity for USB peripherals without having to depend on a dedicated PC for device sharing. It removes the short-distance cable limitations of USB technology by converting the signal to Ethernet. Once the device is attached to the network, the UBox allows individual or shared access to the peripherals from any PC. The result is a whole new opportunity for organizations to use USB peripherals in a networked environment.

"In a market flooded with a variety of USB products, the imagination is pretty much the only limitation," said Chris Humphrey, vice president of marketing for Lantronix. "Now, a small office can share a low cost multi-function printer or storage subsystem. A medical office can connect and share PDAs. Even USB biometric fingerprint security devices, designed to protect PCs, have suddenly become an alternative for the enterprise," Humphrey added.

The UBox includes software designed to identify, access, configure, upgrade and secure each UBox unit on the network as needed. Once the software is installed and the UBox is configured, it runs seamlessly in the background allowing USB equipment to be automatically connected to associated PCs in the same manner as if they were connected locally.

The UBox will soon be available through authorized Lantronix distributors and resellers. For more information, contact Lantronix at 800-422-7055 or visit www.lantronix.com.
