QLogic Demonstrates Customers Now Have a Choice of Easy-to-Install SMB SANs: Fibre Channel, iSCSI, or Both

EMC CLARiiON and Dell/EMC AX100 Storage, SANblade HBAs and SANbox Switches Install in Minutes with SANsurfer Express

NEW ORLEANS and LAS VEGAS, May 16, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- EMC Technology Summit and QLogic Worldwide Partner Conference -- QLogic Corp. (Nasdaq:QLGC), the company that powers storage area networks (SANs), today announced it is demonstrating the SANsurfer Small Business SAN Wizard that allows technical generalists to install in minutes EMC(r) and Dell SANs based on Fibre Channel, iSCSI or a combination of both. The configurations, consisting of EMC CLARiiON(r) AX100 networked storage arrays, which are offered by Dell as the Dell/EMC AX100, QLogic SANbox(r) switches, SANblade Fibre Channel or iSCSI HBAs and SANsurfer Express(tm) Software, are being demonstrated this week at the EMC Technology Summit and QLogic Worldwide Partner Conference.

"The award-winning Dell/EMC AX100 is a great example of Dell's focus on simplifying storage for a broader range of customers," said Praveen Asthana, director of storage for Dell Product Group. "This advancement in easy to use SANs will make it even easier for small organizations and workgroups to deploy their first SAN."

"The SANsurfer Express software developed by QLogic highlights the openness and flexibility of the EMC CLARiiON platforms," said Marty Lans, EMC's Director of SAN Product Marketing. "Using EMC's open interfaces, QLogic has developed an effective solution that gives technical consultants the choice of deploying a higher performance Fibre Channel SAN, a more familiar IP-based SAN, or integrating a combination of both."

"Small and midsized businesses count on value-added resellers to help them select, install and get the most out of their IT investments," said Richard Villars, Vice President of Storage Systems research at IDC. "Given the continued expansion of storage systems choices available to SMBs, VARs need storage solutions that allow them to leverage standard installation and management practices across Fibre Channel and iSCSI environments."

The innovative QLogic SANsurfer Express software, which makes fast installation possible, takes advantage of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Virtual Disk Service (VDS). Virtual Disk Service provides system and storage administrators with an effective tool for provisioning and managing storage resources. The VDS infrastructure is designed to enable management of multi-vendor storage devices from a single user interface on Windows, which reduces management complexity.
