EMS Technologies Awarded Duplexer on OCEANSAT 2

ATLANTA, May 20, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- EMS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:ELMG) announced today that its Defense & Space Systems division has been awarded a contract by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) to provide a Front End Switch Assembly (FESA) for the OCEANSAT 2 satellite. The value to EMS is $1.6 million USD over 12 months.

The FESA, a Ku-Band duplexer, will consist of a T/R module that is required to direct the transmit signals from primary and redundant TWTA's to the OCEANSAT 2 antenna, and to direct receive signals to primary and redundant receivers. The FESA will provide protection to the receiver from damage potentially caused by the transmitted RF signals. In addition, the FESA will contain a switch for the selection of antenna beams, a switch for TWTA redundancy selection, and a switch for receiver redundancy selection. EMS's capabilities will allow the FESA to provide an RF transmit power monitor function for telemetry purposes, and will provide the RF hardware necessary for scatterometer relative calibration, using a loop-back approach.

OCEANSAT 2, designed by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), will be the next-generation satellite-based ocean observation system that will study surface winds and ocean surface strata. In addition, it will continue the observation capabilities of OCEANSAT 1 employing the Ocean Colour Monitor (OCM), which can identify potential fishery locations. The data from the satellite missions are important to creating a base-line of costal habitats, erosion and depositional areas.

EMS's heritage on the Seawinds satellite played a key role in winning the award. Work on the program is scheduled to continue through mid-2006.
