Wackenhut Guatemala Selects EMS SATCOM's Packet Data Terminal in Strategy to Reduce Costs and Prevent Cargo Theft

MONTERREY, Mexico and OTTAWA, Ontario, May 26, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- EMS SATCOM, a division of EMS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:ELMG), announced today that Wackenhut Guatemala has selected the company's Packet Data Terminal (PDT) and SEPROMEX's monitoring equipment as part of its new strategy to reduce its customers' operating costs and prevent cargo theft in Latin America.

With staggering increases in truck and trailer-based cargo transport and, as a result, cargo theft, the need for secure cargo transport has never been greater. SEPROMEX and EMS SATCOM have put together a technology bundle that makes monitoring and securing cargo much easier, and more cost-effective. The PDT is an antenna and terminal that provides a communication link between the truck and container and the head office, using an MSV (Mobile Satellite Ventures) satellite. It provides real-time monitoring, giving Wackenhut Guatemala's customers immediate access to trailer location and cargo status. The combination of SEPROMEX's monitoring equipment - the Espaceguard TML and the PDT can help keep valuable cargo secure. Espaceguard TML is mounted inside the trailer to monitor the opening of doors and trailer disconnections and associates these activities with the trailer identification number. That information can then be communicated to the home office through the EMS SATCOM PDT.

"We have recognized a growing need to better ensure the safety of our customers' cargo," commented Luis Orellana, president of Wackenhut Guatemala. "Wackenhut has been looking for ways to help our customers in this pursuit and at the same time to reduce operational costs. The bundled EMS SATCOM and SEPROMEX solution is the best fit for achieving both."

"There are many advantages with this system, not the least of which is enhanced cargo integrity," said Stephane Momy, sales manager at EMS SATCOM. "Wackenhut and SEPROMEX recognize the value of the PDT's real-time information delivery. On containers in transport or in storage, it produces significant cost savings, since fewer armed security guards are required to accompany shipments, and owners have up-to-the-minute location data for quick reaction to incidents involving their containers and cargo."

"We are proud that Wackenhut has selected our technology," said Jose Andres, president of SEPROMEX. "The solution provides peace-of-mind for cargo shippers, and we believe this will provide significant value to our customers."
