 WHAT:          The John W. Brown is one of only two surviving fully
                operational liberty ships preserved in the U.S.  John
                W. Brown is a product of the Emergency Ship Building
                Program that built more than 2,700 liberty ships
                during World War II.

                This 441 foot ship is a maritime museum and a memorial
                to the shipyard workers who built, merchant marine
                mariners who sailed, and the U.S. Navy Armed Guard
                crews who defended the Liberty ships during World
                War II.

                9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. with a $5 donation

 BACKGROUND:    The John W. Brown has been fully restored, and is now
                an operating museum ship and memorial.  It is also the
                only operating Liberty Ship on the east coast.  This
                ship is listed in the National Register of Historic
                Places and has received the World Ship Trust's
                prestigious Maritime Heritage Award.

                Celebrating the 20th anniversary season, Penn's
                Landing is Philadelphia's Waterfront district, running
                along Columbus Boulevard from Washington Avenue to
