Colorful Entertainment, Unique Cuisines and Interesting Crafts Highlight The Asian Festival

PECO Energy Multicultural Series, at The Great Plaza at Penn's Landing


PHILADELPHIA, June 7, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- In its second year, as part of the PECO Energy Multicultural Series, the Asian Festival will be another celebration of entertainment, music, culture and food. The rich color, sounds, and sights of multiple Asian cultures are a unique experience not to be missed. This FREE event will take place on the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing, Columbus Boulevard and Chestnut Street. The Asian Festival celebrates 15 Asian cultures in one event spanning over a two-day period -- June 18, 2005 and June 19, 2005 from 12 Noon to 8pm. The PECO Energy Multicultural series is ten different culturally rich and free festivals that take place at Penn's Landing throughout the summer. Independence Blue Cross is the presenting sponsor of the 2005 Summer Season at Penn's Landing.

All activities celebrate the culture and diversity of the Asian community and span countries such as Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. Classical, folk, and contemporary artist demonstrations from fifteen different Asian countries will be offered to intrigue all who attend. Culinary demonstrations will inform audiences about ingredients, techniques, and utensils used in traditional Asian cuisine.

The Asian Festival will celebrate the Pan Asian cultures with a day packed with authentic entertainment. Entertainment will include traditional cultural dancing from the Pan Asian countries. Dances dating more than one thousand years ago and traditionally performed before emperors and imperial courts to contemporary Asian pop culture will be among the Asian pageantry on display. Music played on authentic Asian instruments, the Sounds of Silk string quartet, and Beijing Opera singers will all be featured. Performers arrange in ages from 3 years old to 85 years old. The Asian Festival is truly a platform for local and professional talent from the Greater Philadelphia region coming together to celebrate the Asian culture.

The Asian Marketplace will feature vendors with a wide selection of authentic Asian arts and crafts as well as clothing and jewelry. Authentic Asian artwork will be available to discuss, view and purchase. Food vendors will offer a variety of dishes indigenous to the Asian culture.

Admission is free for all PECO Energy Multicultural Series events. PECO Energy presents a series of free Multicultural festivals throughout the summer season at the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing.
