The Devil's Workshop -- Author Reveals How United States Might Not Be the Good Guy It Says It Is in New Book

HAWTHORNE, Calif., June 9, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Many consider America to be the protector of the world, purveyor of justice and champion of the oppressed. However, J. Richard Snetter believes that the nation is really a demon in disguise, which he explores in his new book, America, The Devil's Workshop? (now available through AuthorHouse).

"(The book) is primarily a cautionary approach to reconciling perceived consequences for improprieties inflicted by a nation obsessed with the notion of the 'Lone Superpower,' as a result of the presumption of the end of the Cold War," Snetter says.

America, The Devil's Workshop? focuses on the "atrocities" the United States has committed on its people and the world abroad. Snetter examines the politics, economics and religion of the "Land of the Free" in an attempt to help inspire lawmakers and common citizens to rectify the wrongs he perceives. From the sanctions the government places on "nations of lesser might" to the "unenforceable laws" passed to the racially divided economy and the "controversial religious precepts" upon which the country was founded, he offers an unapologetic, uncompromising look at America and all its ills.

The book begins with a review of human nature and how it affects behavior and human dignity. Snetter skewers the "misguided" American dream "that never was" and the multitudes of disillusioned immigrants lured to U.S. shores by slogans of prosperity and makes stark comparisons between America and the biblically condemned cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. From the oppression and exploitation of minorities to the scary world influence America possesses to the "political propaganda" and prevalence of the press, the book goes behind the curtain to reveal terrifying, unsettling aspects of America. In the end, Snetter hypothesizes on the lengths that the nation may go to "achieve her objectives," which could include "the destruction of sovereignty and its people."

A controversial, challenging book, America, The Devil's Workshop? offers an important discussion of America's role in the world in these modern times when the globe seems to be on the brink of chaos.

A native of Liberia, Snetter has been a legal resident of the United States for the past 36 years. As a police lieutenant, he was privileged to come to America to attend the International Police Academy in Washington, D.C., John F. Kennedy Special Warfare School at Fort Bragg, N.C., and the U.S. Naval Base in Great Lakes, Ill. He returned two years later to study criminal justice at Michigan State University where he earned bachelor's and master's degrees in four years. He taught criminal justice at North Carolina Central University before making his way to Los Angeles, where he has lived for the past 27 years. America, The Devil's Workshop? is his first book.
