HOUSTON, June 13, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- The Port of Houston Authority (PHA) today announced the promotion of Roger Guenther to General Manager - Container Operations.

Guenther's principal responsibilities will be to review and recommend long-range planning of PHA's container facilities, establish and maintain updated labor work rules that ensure a competitive and efficient operation, and supervise and coordinate the overall performance of facility maintenance and terminal operations at the PHA's Barbours Cut, Bayport and Galveston terminals to ensure that they operate in a cohesive and complimentary manner. Guenther also will be charged with maintaining proper relations with customers, facility users and labor, providing and maintaining a high level of customer service, developing and maintaining systems of tracking labor and equipment cost, and reviewing and providing financial analyses for necessary tariff increases and recommendation on other matters.

"I am confident that his experience and exemplary track record of performance at Barbours Cut over the past 17 years will ensure future success for him and the Port of Houston Authority."

Guenther joined the PHA in 1988 as assistant maintenance manager at PHA's Barbours Cut Terminal. In 1992, he was promoted to assistant terminal manager and was named container facilities manager in 1998. Over the past 12 years, the annual volume at Barbours Cut has increased to more than 1.3 million TEUs while the terminal's annual net income has risen to approximately $30 million. Before joining the PHA, Guenther was an engineer for Emscor, Inc., in Atlanta, Georgia.

Guenther holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Texas A&M University and a masters of business administration degree in international trade and finance from the University of St. Thomas.
