EMS Technologies Awarded Airborne Antenna Contract from the Office Of Naval Research

ATLANTA, June 22, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- EMS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:ELMG) announced today that its Defense & Space Systems (D&SS) division has been awarded a contract by the Office of Naval Research to develop an airborne Common Data Link (CDL) antenna system for communication-on-the-move applications. D&SS's core capabilities for design and manufacture of low-profile, high-efficiency antenna, positioning and RF systems were key factors in the selection process. The duration of the initial phase is 24 months, with the value to EMS estimated at US$1.68 million.

The system, including low-noise receive and high-power transmit amplification, will provide multiple independently steered antenna beams. Mounted on an unmanned aerial vehicle, it will facilitate high-speed communications between ship, air and ground terminals. The antenna system will be used as a key component of the high-altitude relay and router package, part of the Navy's Global Information Grid (GIG) network.

Mike Fatig, Defense & Space Systems vice president of Business Development, stated, "This award reflects EMS's ability to address defense transformation communication needs, in this case the need for affordable, high-efficiency, line-of-sight links for networking defense platforms on the move. This contract exploits our unique slot array antenna and low-loss ferrite switching technologies to provides a low-cost, low-loss, multi-beam alternative."
