CDMA Certification Forum to Develop Global Standard Certification Process to Rapidly Bring Devices to Market

COSTA MESA, Calif., July 11, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- The CDMA Development Group (CDG) (www.cdg.org) today announced the formation of the CDMA Certification Forum(tm) (CCF), a collaboration between CDMA operators and CDMA device vendors. The mission of the forum is to develop and implement a global standardized certification process to significantly reduce the time and cost of bringing CDMA devices to market.

The CCF will establish and maintain a core global device certification process that helps ensure device quality and network compatibility around the world. Founding members of this organization include the CDMA Development Group, Motorola, Nokia, QUALCOMM, Telstra, U.S. Cellular and Via Telecom.

"The CCF will improve the availability and lower the costs of CDMA2000(r) devices for network operators all across the globe regardless of the operator's size," said Perry LaForge, executive director, CDG. "This collaboration between operators and vendors will allow operators to gain greater access to the most advanced handsets quicker, since vendors will be able to sell the same handsets to multiple operators."

"The time and cost savings realized by the CCF allows infrastructure vendors and operators to focus on value-added testing that helps differentiate their product offerings in the marketplace," said Thomas Erickson, president of the CCF. "The clearly defined uniform test process allows device manufacturers to certify the majority of modem layer functionality one time for markets worldwide, resulting in great improvements in test efficiency and significant reduction in test cost. In short, I strongly believe this will be a real boon to wireless operators and equipment makers working in the CDMA2000 space."
