KELOWNA, British Columbia, July 13, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- EPOD International Inc. (OTCBB:EPOI) (Frankfurt:EDU.F), a developer of advanced energy management technologies that significantly increase the efficiency of electrical power devices, is pleased to announce that its subsidiary, EPOD Industries Inc. ("EPOD"), has entered into a technology development agreement with the University of British Columbia to develop an advanced, hybrid supercapacitor-based battery.
EPOD will co-develop, in concert with the Molecular Mechatronics Group at the University of British Columbia's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, an alternative power storage solution to conventional lead-acid batteries for large-scale commercial/industrial applications. The EPOD hybrid battery, which already demonstrates many performance characteristics equivalent to lead-acid batteries, is anticipated to feature substantially lower cost, higher power and energy density, longer lifespan, and will be virtually environmentally benign. The EPOD hybrid battery will also be able to be charged and discharged at a much higher rate than lead-acid batteries.
The development of this commercial power storage solution will assist the Company in further improving its industry-leading power storage value proposition by reducing unit and system cost and increasing operating performance. EPOD will own 100% of the intellectual property developed under the Agreement.
