Universal Detection Technology Welcomes U.S. DHS's Overhaul Which Stresses Bioterrorism, Transportation, and Border Security

LOS ANGELES, July 15, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Universal Detection Technology (OTCBB:UDTT) today welcomed the overhaul by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced on July 13, 2005. The agency announced that it is "undergoing a massive overhaul to centralize its analyses of terrorism intelligence and place higher priority on bioterrorism."

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff was resetting top priorities in a bid to spur a sluggish bureaucracy beset by turf wars and growing pains. "Our department must drive improvement with a sense of urgency," Chertoff said in his remarks. "Our enemy constantly changes and adapts, so we as a department must be nimble and decisive". Transportation and border security are among Chertoff's top priorities and will be attributed more personnel, and detection and screening technology.

As part of the overhaul, a chief medical officer also will be named to oversee bioterror policy and coordinate responses to biological attacks by the Centers for Disease Control, which stockpiles vaccines and antidotes, and state and local officials. Poor information flow between federal agencies during the Washington area's false anthrax scare this year contributed to the decision to create this post, officials said.

"Following last week's devastating bombings of a bus and three trains in London, the world has once again come to realize the degree of unpreparedness and the importance of efficient monitoring of homeland, including the transportation system and national borders," said Jacques Tizabi, UDTT's Chairman and CEO. "We are proud to say that our three years of research and development has given us the capability to provide the nation and the civilized world with a practical solution for the threat of an anthrax attack. We believe that our endospore monitoring technology can significantly boost preparedness and save large numbers of people by alerting the authorities of a potential bioterrorist attack before large scale contamination," he added.
