(OTCBB:VYST), a leading homeland defense solutions provider, announced today that the U.S. Department of Energy's Idaho National Laboratory has received a prestigious R&D 100 award for its Hazmat Camera System, which is marketed by View Systems as the Visual First Responder (VFR).
The VFR is a lightweight wireless video camera system that is taken to incident scenes by emergency first responders. Engineer, Kevin Young, of the Idaho National Laboratory who developed the Hazmat Camera said, "What makes this system unique is that it combines a triple antenna and true-diversity receiver with a low frequency transmitter, video encryption, and waterproof housing. These features allow the system to deliver a clear, secure picture, and it's submersible for decontamination purposes."
Young began working on the Hazmat Camera System in 1999, and it was licensed for production by View Systems as the Visual First Responder in 2004. More than a dozen National Guard Civil Support Teams, law enforcement agencies, and fire departments throughout the United States are currently using this piece of equipment to increase safety during chemical, radiological, or biological incidents. It is also being used for search and rescue functions, as well as providing support for Operation Iraqi Freedom.
