Local Businessman Donates Book Sales to Charity

WICHITA, Kan., July 22, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Johnny Tarrant, author of "The Book on Direct Mail: How to Make It Work," will be donating 100 percent of book sales to The ALS Association Keith Worthington Chapter at his book signing on July 28 at Watermark Books & Cafe from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Watermark Books & Cafe is located at 4701 E. Douglas.

Tarrant's book gives users and potential consumers of direct mail marketing the inside tract of his 40 years of experience by using advertising and direct mailing strategies. "The Book on Direct Mail: How to Make It Work" includes valuable information on how to make the most of advertising dollars, avoiding the "junk mail" stereotype most direct mailers receive, tips on developing your own direct mail program and getting your audience to respond.

"Direct mail is truly a science," Tarrant explains. "It is precise, targeted, and you can track and predict your results. For business people, this book can help to increase their sales."

Tarrant, president of Quik Print locations in Wichita and Topeka, is also making it work for a local charity, The ALS Association Keith Worthington Chapter. He's donating all of the proceeds from the sales of this book to the fight against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.

Tarrant is personally connected to ALS, the nerve disease that strips victims of their muscle mobility and breath. Kerry Gray, one of Tarrant's closest friends, helped to edit the early drafts of the book. Kerry started his four-decade career in the advertising industry in the mailroom, finally earning his chair at the top of an advertising company as chief executive officer. He pioneered marketing until he died of ALS at the age of 58 in 2004, just months before Tarrant published this first book.

Kerry's year-and-a-half long battle with the disease inspired Tarrant to donate proceeds from the sale of each book to The ALS Association, a national healthcare organization dedicated solely to the fight against ALS.

"I don't want people to forget about Kerry. He was a great friend of mine," Tarrant remembers his colleague. "This is a great way to keep his memory alive."
