Northrop Grumman, the New York State Department of Transportation and New York State Police Receive Recognition for Intelligent Transportation Solutions

MCLEAN, Va., Aug. 2, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation, (NYSE:NOC) the New York State Department of Transportation and the New York State Police have received the Project of the Year Award from the Intelligent Transportation Society of New York. The winning project, a transportation-management center, provides public-safety services and assists New York travelers with traffic information.

The Intelligent Transportation Society Project of the Year Awards honor a program's use of intelligent transportation solutions and their impact on a New York transportation issue.

The Hudson Valley Transportation Management Center, located in Hawthorne, N.Y., coordinates area-wide highway and transit management and incident-response information and disseminates it to travelers. Jointly operated by the New York State Dept. of Transportation and New York State Police, the center includes intelligent-transportation technology designed by Northrop Grumman's Information Technology (IT) sector.

Northrop Grumman integrated an advanced traffic-management system that includes geospatial mapping and closed-circuit television capabilities. The system interfaces with traffic sensors and dynamic message signs, as well as incident-management screens that help traffic analysts, operators and dispatchers keep travelers aware of the condition of the region's roadways.

"The Hudson Valley Transportation Management Center exemplifies how a partnership between industry and transportation and public safety agencies can provide a valuable service to the public," said Bruce Bauer, manager of transportation systems at Northrop Grumman IT. "Northrop Grumman's experience with integrating the latest technology to enable data sharing among all the agencies will help improve public services across the state."

"Since the center opened in the fall of 2003, our role in regional traffic and public-safety services continues to grow," said Robert A. Dennison, HVTMC regional director, New York State Dept. of Transportation, Hudson Valley Region. "The New York State Dept. of Transportation and the New York State Police continue to improve the operations infrastructure to provide the best services for citizens and commuters."

The facility also serves as a dispatch center for state police Troop K, has a regional 9-1-1 call center, and provides emergency-management offices for New York State and Westchester County.
