EMS Technologies Awarded Contract for IF Modules on National Polar-Orbiting Operational Environment Satellite Systems (NPOESS)

ATLANTA, Aug. 5, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- EMS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:ELMG) announced today that its Defense & Space Systems division is performing on a contract awarded in December 2004 to provide Intermediate Frequency (IF) Modules for the National Polar-orbiting Operational Environment Satellite Systems (NPOESS). Northrop Grumman Navigation & Space Sensors Division awarded the contract with a total value to EMS of approximately $4.0 million USD. As part of the effort, EMS will provide ten different types of IF Modules for five flight sets, with work extending through 2007.

The IF modules are key components for the Advanced Technology Microwave sounder (ATMS), which is a meteorological flight instrument for use on board the NPOESS. The IF modules frequency-convert and amplify the radiometer signals for further signal processing.

NPOESS is a satellite system designed to monitor global environmental conditions, and collect and disseminate data related to: weather, atmosphere, oceans, land and near-space environment. The NPOESS program is managed by the tri-agency Integrated Program Office (IPO), employing personnel from the Department of Commerce, Department of Defense and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
