New Ad Campaign Focuses on UnumProvident's Benefit Solutions Role

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn., Aug. 9, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- UnumProvident (NYSE:UNM) rolls out a new advertising campaign this month that, for the first time in many years, does not feature its premier product - disability income protection. Instead, the new campaign focuses on UnumProvident's supplemental products and on its leading position as a provider of benefit solutions to help individuals, families and employers manage many of life's challenges.

"Smart Service. Great Ideas." is the company's new tagline, reflecting its role in offering comprehensive group and supplemental benefits solutions for employers, including employee insurance programs, benefit communication and enrollment support, leave management solutions, claims management and health and productivity planning support.

Traditionally, UnumProvident's ad campaigns have featured the company's market position as the leading provider of disability income protection insurance in the United States.

"UnumProvident offers so much more to benefit managers and their advisors," said Keith Hickerson, vice president, Corporate Marketing. "We are also the second largest provider of voluntary supplemental products. Our new campaign focuses on those supplemental offerings as well as on the ideas and service tools we provide to help employers create a strong benefits offering, control rising health care costs, and recruit and retain a quality workforce. The new ads communicate our understanding of the full range of challenges benefit managers face and that we offer practical ideas and high-quality solutions to meet their changing needs."

The campaign targets group benefit decision-makers, primarily with print and online advertising.
