Local real estate developer purchases mall in Rocky Mount, North Carolina

ATLANTA, Aug. 10, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Hendon Properties announced today the acquisition of Golden East Crossing in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, located a few miles east of Raleigh. Hendon Properties purchased North Dekalb Mall in Decatur, Georgia in October 2003 making Golden East Crossing its second major regional shopping center purchase. Golden East Crossing is a 580,000-square-foot shopping center, and, according to Charlie Hendon, founder of Hendon Properties, the town of Rocky Mount is located halfway between Florida and New York and benefits from heavy traffic and tourism on 1-95 and the Miracle Mile along Highway 301. It is also home to Abbott Laboratories, Nash Health Care systems, and Sara Lee Bakery, with the strongest population growth in the market being in the immediate vicinity of the mall.

At 580,000 square feet, Golden East Crossing is the largest retail shopping center east of Raleigh and is currently anchored by Belk, JCPenney, and Sears. Other retail stores include The Children's Place, American Eagle, Aeropostale, Bath & Body Works, Victoria's Secret, and Lady Foot Locker. Recently, the center underwent major renovations making way for a Best Buy store inside the mall.

In a statement about the acquisition, Charlie Hendon, President of Hendon Properties said, "Golden East Crossing presents an excellent opportunity for Hendon Properties with its desirable location. With noticeable improvements to become apparent over the next several months, we will actively pursue new tenants that will attract not only local traffic, but traffic along the Miracle Mile."
