SEPATON Selects Emulex InSpeed Embedded Switches to Enhance Reliability, Availability and Serviceability

Data Protection Solutions Provider Incorporates Switched Architecture into Virtual Tape Library Offering

COSTA MESA, Calif., Aug. 10, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), the industry's preeminent source for a broad range of advanced storage networking infrastructure solutions, today announced that SEPATON, Inc. has integrated the Emulex 2Gb/s InSpeed(TM) Model 350 and Model 370 Embedded Storage Switches into the SEPATON S2100 family of Virtual Tape Library (VTL) systems. As a result, SEPATON customers benefit from the RAS (Reliability, Availability, Serviceability) advantages inherent to InSpeed embedded switches, as its storage back-up and recovery systems are deployed.

The SEPATON family of VTL systems delivers backup/restore performance, flexibility and scalability that far surpass traditional tape-based systems. SEPATON's VTL solutions are well-suited for corporate IT administrators tasked with handling large amounts of sensitive data.

"We are always looking for innovative solutions that will improve our customer's backup and recovery experience, and the Emulex InSpeed embedded architecture provides us with a robust technology to help us continue to drive innovation, performance, and scalability," said Linda Mentzer, vice president, marketing, SEPATON, Inc. "Working in partnership with a prominent industry leader like Emulex, helps us to deliver a compelling and competitive solution set."

The InSpeed Model 350 and Model 370 (12 and 20 ports, respectively) are the only storage switches specifically designed for embedded Root Switch applications in tape libraries and disk storage systems. With their deployment, SEPATON provides significant improvements by leveraging the performance of switched-bunch-of-disks (SBODs).

"SEPATON's decision to deploy Emulex's InSpeed embedded storage switches in its virtual tape appliance demonstrates the versatility of our products," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of worldwide marketing for Emulex Corporation. "SEPATON is eager -- for many of the same reasons that eight of the top 10 storage vendors have adopted InSpeed embedded switching for integration into their products -- to bring the innovative benefits of a fully switched architecture to its customer base."

SEPATON's data protection platform is built on a dynamic file system and has an intelligent software core with the power to distinguish content and files. This enables customers to perform a range of crucial data protection functions faster and more efficiently, without disrupting existing work processes.
