Pure Power Comes in Unexpected Packages -- Teenage Wonder Utilizes Her Unique Abilities to Save Ancient Culture in New Book

BIXBY, Okla., August 15, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- This is one adolescent girl with a pure heart, spiritual strength and a serious positive attitude. In "Kelly Karate Meets the Mayan Queen" (now available through AuthorHouse), Susan Barnes invites readers to get to know this teen dynamo as she takes them on an incredible adventure through time.

At 15 years old, Kelly is adventurous, upbeat and has extraordinary gifts. Not only is she a karate champion, but she can also travel through time. Her story begins in the lush jungles of the Yucatan in Mexico, as she and her Spanish class prepare to tour the Mayan pyramids. From the start, Kelly's enthusiasm leads her into an unusual situation when she encounters an unsettling native.

Soon joined by her best friend, Paige, and a new buddy, Marcella, Kelly meets Tikal, a Mayan prince from the year 250 A.D. Tikal and his grandfather, a renowned shaman, have traveled through time to enlist aid for their battle to save their kingdom from an evil imposter. Together with Marcella and Paige, Kelly follows Tikal into the past, takes on a scheming witch, infiltrates a corrupt kingdom and discovers an alien power source.

Barnes invites readers to share in the amazing adventures of these teenage heroines, who rely on their intelligence and femininity to excel. Whether saving a life or getting herself into dangerous predicaments, Kelly continuously calls on her faith and inner strength to circumvent evil invites.

"I am driven to inspire children and to guide them to emotional healing through my books," she writes. "[I want] to contribute to the uplifting of consciousness by reaching out through magical stories and to infuse the spirit with the absolute knowledge that all things are possible."

Barnes grew up on horse and cattle ranches in Texas and Mexico. She is the author of two additional books in this series, "Kelly Karate Encounters the Moon Princess" and "Kelly Karate Discovers the Ice Princess," as well as a produced playwright and screenplay writer. A trained public speaker, she gives lectures and workshops on creative writing, spiritual evolvement and emotional healing. She is certified in neuro linguistic programming, and she works with children and young adults as a hypnotherapist. She also volunteers her services in homeless centers and for teens in crisis. Barnes divides her time living in Texas, Oklahoma and Australia. She is currently working on her next book, "Kelly Karate In Search of the Aborigine Priestess."
