Geodetic Systems, Inc. Launches New V-STARS/E4X Photogrammetry System to Metrology Marketplace

Portable, Precise Entry-Level Photogrammetry for Industrial Coordinate Measurement

MELBOURNE, Fla., Aug. 29, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Geodetic Systems, Inc. (GSI), a leading provider of portable 3D coordinate measurement systems for industrial measurement, today announced the release of their new V-STARS/E4X Digital Photogrammetry system. This entry-level product is ideal for a wide range of applications that do not require the highest level of accuracy or expandability as provided by GSI's top-of-the-line V-STARS/S8 Single Camera and V-STARS/M8 Dual Camera systems. The highly mobile V-STARS/E4X is well-suited for fast, non-contact measurement of large objects in production environments where downtime is critical, or in industrial settings where formidable conditions like vibration, movement, and temperature are ever present. This photogrammetric solution can be used for part and tool inspection, part building, surface measurement, reverse engineering, bridge block measurements and more. GSI's V-STARS systems are the most portable CMMs available today.

The V-STARS/E4X system includes a Nikon D2X camera, which has been expertly re-engineered by GSI with advanced calibration techniques and transformed into a high accuracy photogrammetric camera. The camera features a 12 million pixel color CMOS sensor, optional wireless operation, an LCD screen, TTL viewfinder, a custom calibrated lens, and a removable battery and digital storage. The Nikon D2X has an easy-to-learn menu, and works directly with V-STARS 4.4 software for 3D data acquisition and analysis with ultra fast image/point processing, and a best-fit capability for point cloud-to-surface model analysis. V-STARS photogrammetry is utilized by diverse industries including aerospace, power generation, automotive, shipbuilding, antenna manufacturing, and more.

In a typical photogrammetry session, the D2X digital camera can be setup and ready to shoot in just seconds. The camera's metal body is lightweight and sturdy enough to meet the demands of industrial environments and outdoor settings. The camera can store images in RAM, and also uses high-capacity Compact Flash Cards. Digital photographs can also be transmitted to a computer via an optional wireless interface.

The V-STARS/E4X system includes the camera, a notebook computer, V-STARS software, and various optional accessories. The compact solution can be hand carried aboard an airplane, or checked as standard baggage, to travel anywhere in the world for the most challenging measurement assignments.

What is Metrology? What is Photogrammetry?

The science of measurement is known as the field of metrology. Engineers, manufacturers, scientists, and quality control technicians utilize measurement technology in their own unique disciplines. Photogrammetry is a three-dimensional coordinate measuring technique that uses photographs as the fundamental medium for metrology. GSI offers the most comprehensive product line based on industrial photogrammetry in the marketplace.
