Carrier Will Launch First 1xEV-DO Services in Central America

COSTA MESA, Calif., Aug. 31, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- The CDMA Development Group (CDG) (www.cdg.org) today congratulated Telefonica Moviles on its deployment of CDMA2000(r) 1xEV-DO high-speed data services in key markets throughout Guatemala. The carrier will offer subscribers in Guatemala high-speed access comparable to broadband speeds to meet residential and enterprise needs.

"Telefonica Moviles' announcement to offer 1xEV-DO to its subscribers puts them at the forefront of wireless communications services," said Perry LaForge, executive director of the CDG. "Now subscribers in Guatemala will benefit from the advantages 1xEV-DO offers, including broadband access to email, Internet and multimedia applications."

CDMA2000 1xEV-DO is a data-optimized technology and delivers data at speeds of up to 2.4 Mbps. Subscribers with a compatible mobile phone, PC card or modem can wirelessly access the Internet, download videos and music, view TV programs and send video messages.

"Telefonica Moviles has always met the demands of its subscribers to offer the highest quality voice and data access on the market," said Juan Antonio Abellan, general manager of Telefonica Moviles. "We are able to augment our leadership position in the region by providing our subscribers with high-speed access to 3G services based on 1xEV-DO technology."
