Occidental Petroleum Supports Hurricane Katrina Relief Effort

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 31, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Occidental Petroleum Corporation (NYSE:OXY) announced today that it is donating $1 million to the American Red Cross to aid the victims of Hurricane Katrina. In addition, the company will match all individual employee contributions to the Red Cross for use in the relief effort.

In announcing the contribution, Dr. Ray R. Irani, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer said, "Among the millions of people whose lives have been impacted by Katrina are Oxy employees. Although our oil and gas employees and company operated facilities have not been affected, the families of Oxy employees at our chemical operations in Convent, Geismar, Luling and Taft, Louisiana, as well as Mobile, Alabama, are experiencing adversity. Our facilities in these locations have sustained only minor damage and we currently have no reports of injuries to Oxy personnel or family members. Our thoughts are with all of our fellow citizens who are suffering from the unimaginable hardship caused by Katrina."
