EMS Wins Major Satellite Payload Contract


MONTREAL, Sept. 1, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- EMS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:ELMG) announced today that its Space & Technology/Montreal Division has been awarded a contract from MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (MDA) of Richmond, B.C., Canada, to provide the Cascade information delivery payload for the CASSIOPE multi-purpose information delivery and scientific research satellite. The Cascade information delivery system will be a "courier in the sky" system, capable of uploading gigabytes of data to the satellite, storing the data on-board and subsequently downloading the data as the satellite passes over a distant ground station.

Under the terms of the CND $27.1 million contract, EMS will provide the Cascade CX information delivery payload based on Ka-band communication technology. EMS will design, manufacture, assemble and integrate a variety of payload units and subsystems, and will perform the payload system design, assembly, integration and test at its Space & Technology/Montreal division's facilities in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, Quebec. The Company had been conducting work on this program under an Authority to Proceed in anticipation of contract award. EMS expects to complete the work over the next 22 months. The payload will be delivered to MDA for integration with the CASSIOPE spacecraft at the end of second quarter 2007.
